Introduction to the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative TF1 Database Registry

Welcome to the LCI database registry!

The purpose of this questionnaire is to collect data about LCI databases and set up a registry to continuously provide database developers - whether new in this area or experienced users - with a consistent and transparent overview over all LCI databases presently available worldwide - as far as the database could be identified or contacted the Life Cycle Initiative and a feed-back to this questionnaire was received. The information provided by the registry will allow users to select data relevant to their specific needs (e.g. in terms of main types of materials-/services-datasets typically required, countries covered or need for certain formats the user is already using etc.)

The search for appropriate LCI databases is quick and easy, but still meaningful for the users as the key features of the data sets are described. The registry provides information on the database content, methodological aspects of LCI data modelling, the scope of documentation, handling of data quality, the database format, available database languages, related software tools, reference users of the database, external database review, database update, price/access information as well as contact information of the database provider.

In no way is it intended to judge the quality of the database, or recommend any particular database over another. To ensure credibility of this registry the information given is reviewed by the Task Force setting up this registry. Severe misuse may result in exclusion from this registry.

This registry focuses on LCI databases. Since the direct use of LCI data sets in any LCA software is important information for the user, the review refers to the respective LCA software systems, if any. Databases under development are included as far as the datasets and the meta-information are available.

The language for the LCI database characterisation is English. The forms of the registry aim to be self-explanatory. Questions and comments to the content of the registry can be made using the excel-sheet provided on the registry form page. It is possible to fill out each form seperately. The information will be stored when you logout. Even if you have not completed the whole registry, so you can continue later on.
